What Real Immersion as a Student in Seville Looks Like

For this photoset, I want to show what real immersion actually looks like for me during my time abroad. When people think of studying abroad, they usually picture travel photos, famous landmarks, and weekend trips. That is definitely part of it, but for me, this experience goes much deeper than that. I want my photos to reflect how my coursework, daily routines, and relationships here in Seville are shaping me both academically and personally.

In my first week in Seville, I was able to form a strong bond with my roommates and enjoy great views of the city.

A beautiful night at Plaza de España, a must-see site for everyone visiting!

Through my classes, especially taking courses alongside Spanish students, I am not just learning information. I am learning how to think in another language, how to participate in discussions with different perspectives, and how to step outside of my comfort zone.

A cute brunch spot I visited before my first day of class!

The beauty in a historic dance, truly romantic!

Being part of a student intercambio program has made this even more meaningful. It is one thing to study Spanish in a classroom, but it is completely different to sit down with a local student, talk about life, compare cultures, and build real friendships. For me, that is where the language becomes alive.

Me and my forever friends, they are the reason why the journey is worthwhile!

Thankful for artists such as this native Sevillano who portrayed beauty through his hands in this work.

I also want to highlight how I am choosing to engage with Seville outside the classroom. Volunteering and participating in wellness workshops have helped me connect to the local community in a more intentional way. These moments allow me to see how health, lifestyle, and community support look in a different cultural context. As someone studying biology and Spanish on the pre-dental track, these experiences matter to me. They are shaping the kind of healthcare professional I hope to become one day.

My first excursion outside of Seville, to Malaga! Here the sun meets the ocean; it’s a beautiful place!

The beauty of nature is all around! From coast to coast, traveling is a must!

Overall, I want to tell the story here of different types of growth most students experience while abroad, but most importantly highlight my personal growth. This photoset shows the small, everyday moments that make this experience meaningful: the conversations, the shared meals, the workshops, the campus life.

Sometimes you have to appreciate the architecture everywhere you go, from oceans to even arches :)

When you feel a little homesick, you naturally lean toward home. Being in Spain has been incredible, but sometimes comfort looks like tacos—something that reminds me of the Texas sun.

I want people to see that immersion is not just about where you live, but about how deeply you choose to engage while you are there.
