How to Boost Your Resume and Have Fun Doing It

I’ve always dreamed of working abroad after graduation, and I knew that meant building skills beyond what I could learn in a classroom. When I discovered the CEA CAPA Study + Internship Abroad program in Prague, Czechia, I saw it as the perfect opportunity to gain hands-on international work experience while earning academic credit. While there were challenges along the way, this internship turned out to be one of the most influential and enjoyable experiences of my career so far. For any student hoping to build a global career, I can confidently say this program is an opportunity worth pursuing.

Why Prague Is the Best City to Intern + Study Abroad

Prague, often called the Heart of Europe, is one of the best cities for students looking to study or intern abroad in Europe. From its stunning architecture and rich history to its welcoming people and affordable lifestyle, Prague offers the full European study abroad experience without the overwhelming crowds or high prices of larger cities like Paris or London.

One of the biggest advantages of choosing Prague for a study abroad or internship program is its affordability and central location. Living costs are lower than in many Western European cities, and the city’s well-connected transportation makes it easy (and inexpensive) to travel throughout Europe on weekends.

Czech culture is another highlight. Locals are proud of their traditions and heritage, and they’re often eager to share what makes the Czech Republic unique - whether through food, festivals, or everyday conversations. At the same time, Prague is a growing hub for young professionals, with many startups and tech unicorns launching here. This creates an exciting, international atmosphere that makes it easy for students and interns to connect, network, and build friendships.

For anyone seeking an affordable, vibrant, and culturally rich home base, Prague is one of the best underrated destinations for studying and interning abroad.

CEA CAPA Makes Internships Abroad Accessible

Starting an internship abroad in Prague might sound intimidating, especially when you don’t speak the local language. Thankfully, CEA CAPA made the entire process smooth and stress-free. After submitting my resume, experience, and interests, I was quickly matched with an organization and scheduled for an interview. Their support made entering an international workplace feel seamless, giving me the confidence to succeed in a new environment.

When I arrived in Prague and began working, I felt supported by staff however I needed it. Simultaneously, all internship students were enrolled in an internship course designed to build upon our work experiences and apply them to future opportunities. I was also able to make friends with likeminded, driven individuals who were also ready to jump headfirst into their own international organizations.

New Industry, New Experience, New Friends

As a marketing major, this internship gave me the chance to step outside my comfort zone and gain experience in a completely new industry. I worked at GoodCall, a Czech-based HR recruitment and employer branding company, where I supported projects in SEO, market research, and brand design. Coming in with no background in HR pushed me to be proactive, ask questions, and learn quickly: skills that go far beyond textbook marketing knowledge.

This experience broadened my understanding of how different business functions work together and showed me how to apply my existing marketing skills in a new context. More importantly, it helped me build essential soft skills like adaptability, problem-solving, and cross-team communication: qualities that will serve me in any fast-paced, global workplace.

Along the way, I also experienced genuine cultural immersion. My coworkers welcomed me from day one, helping me understand Czech work culture and sharing recommendations for food, travel, and local events. Those relationships became one of the most meaningful parts of my internship, and they’re a huge reason Prague now feels like a second home.

Stepping into a role outside my major proved to me that professional growth often comes from embracing uncertainty. It gave me confidence, a global perspective, and a stronger foundation for whatever career path I pursue next.

Challenges of Interning Abroad

While the rewards were immense, it’s important to acknowledge the challenges of a study + internship abroad program. Unlike some of my peers who only studied abroad, my schedule was packed with 20 internship hours each week, 12 credit hours, and occasional weekend travel. This meant less free time for bonding with my roommates or exploring my home city, but it also taught me time management and resilience.

Another reality of interning abroad is that internships are unpaid due to visa requirements, so budgeting is essential. At work, language barriers sometimes made me feel out of place, especially during lunch conversations in Czech. Still, my coworkers were always accommodating, and these moments ultimately pushed me to grow in patience and adaptability.

Don’t forget to travel to other cities within your home country, too. Here’s Brno, Czech Republic, about 2 hours from Prague.

Take The Leap!

My internship abroad in Prague, Czechia, was one of the most rewarding parts of my study abroad experience in Europe. I gained practical marketing and SEO skills, built strong international friendships, and learned how to adapt to a completely new environment. While there were challenges, professional growth and cultural immersion far outweighed them.

If you’re considering studying abroad in Europe, adding an internship to your program is the best way to boost your resume, prepare for a global career, and make your experience unforgettable. Programs like CEA CAPA provide guidance and support to make interning abroad accessible and transformative. Don’t hesitate. Take the leap and let your international career journey begin!
