Falling in Love with The Emerald Isle: Studying Abroad in Dublin, Ireland

Up and Down the River Liffey

Ever since I was a kid and hearing the Irish music my grandpa would play on his records, I felt a strong connection towards the culture of Ireland. Throughout my teen years, I fell in love with artists like The Cranberries and Hozier (both Irish) as well as the art that was produced by Irish painters, which would result in me dreaming about getting to experience it firsthand. With the help from CEA CAPA, I was able to live and complete a dream of mine.

Taking in the Fog at the edge of the world

I was able to combine my love for Ireland with my passion for Social Science, specifically that of Psychology. While in studying abroad in Dublin, I had to take advantage of everything the program provided while getting to tick off things from my bucket list. I danced and sang along to the Irish folk ballads, indulged myself in the culture by visiting museums, changing up the food I ate and making relationships with the locals.

When the views of Howth are worth the climb

I was afraid of leaving my comfort zone of Michigan for weeks, but it turned out to be one of the best decisions of my life. During the day, I would take this beautiful scenery walk to my classes where I got to participate in discussions and on a weekly basis travel to in-person learning regarding child and cross-cultural psychology.

Then in the afternoon after studying, reading, and finishing my assignments I had time to experience and let out my Irish side. On the weekends we had a great time as we got to experience the political diversity of Northern Ireland, Belfast as well as the unforgettable views by the Cliffs of Moher. I can still feel the long and strong winds hitting my jacket and trying to take my hat away.

Fresh Galway Seafood

The seafood was unlike anything I’ve had, and the spicy chip bag will be something I cherish forever. I made friendships from across the country, and memories that will last a lifetime with me. I got to learn about myself and grow as a young adult at a time when it was much needed.
