Tips for Work-Life Balance While Studying and Interning Abroad
During my study abroad semester in Prague, I took some classes at Anglo-American University and some at the CEA CAPA study center. I also have an internship abroad here in Prague at a law firm where I learn a lot about European laws and the Czech legal system and I get to draft documents and do legal research.
Right outside the Anglo-American University building where I take some of my classes. It is near the Malostranská metro station making it quick and easy for me to commute to class.
You do not have to have an internship when you study abroad but for me, I felt that it was an amazing opportunity, and I had an amazing experience there. I learned a lot during my internship and gained a lot of knowledge that I know will be beneficial for me in my future career.
Me at my internship office. I work on drafting documents and legal research and everyone in the workplace is very kind.
For when I have classes at Anglo-American University, I take the A line metro. I take it from Náměstí Míru, just a five-minute walk from my apartment. The Malostranská metro station is right outside Anglo-American University, and I take three classes there.

This is a Letná Park located in Prague 7. It is about a 10-minute tram ride from my internship that is located in the Florenc area of Prague 1. It’s a great place to relax and do some work.
The professors are very nice, and I met so many students and classmates from not just the U.S. but from so many other countries around the world. I have befriended a lot of the students, and everyone is very kind.
There are many places near my apartment that are great for studying, but I also sometimes like to go for a walk in the neighborhood when I need a break. I like to go to Letná Park in Prague 7 that is just a 10-minute tram ride from my internship on my breaks. It is one of my favorite places to study and work on tasks my supervisor has given me for my internship.

Another photo of Letná Park showing how much open space there is. There are a lot of areas to get some shade and sometimes during breaks from my internship I like to eat here with friends. I also like to work here with other CEA CAPA students since not all go to Anglo-American University, and this is a great place to meet up when our schedules align. It’s also just a five-minute walk from where other students are housed.
Letná Park and a view of Prague. The views from Letná Park are gorgeous and since it is just a 10-minute tram ride from my internship I have enough time to walk around, relax, and do some work if I need to and to make it back on time.
Also, in between my classes at Anglo American, I like to go to the Patio especially when it is nice out. The Patio is right outside of the cafe and is a perfect place to grab a coffee and do some studying with friends.
This is the patio area at Anglo-American University. This is a great area to socialize with friends and classmates and when the weather's nice I also love to catch up on homework here.
This is a closer photo outside my internship building—this is a more professional work area of Prague 1. There are a lot of restaurants and cafes nearby that I like to eat at with friends.
I also like to do work in Karlovo Náměstí especially since it is right where the B line metro leads me straight to my internship.

Here is a photo from Karlovo náměstí, right outside of one of the metro stations. Karlovo náměstí has the B line metro which is a direct line to my internship in Florenc.
Sometimes it can be a little bit difficult balancing work between classes at Anglo American, CEA CAPA, and my internship abroad, but it has strengthened my time management skills, and I have learned so much.
