Riviera Roomies: Living the Cote d’Azur Dream While Studying Abroad in Antibes
Studying abroad in Antibes was an experience that changed the way I see the world and myself. Found in the heart of the French Riviera, it offered the most perfect balance of rich history, a plethora of adventures, and personal growth. The photos I selected are an attempt to capture not just the beautiful landscapes of this region, but also the small, intimate moments that made my experience here so meaningful to me.
One of my favorite views in Antibes: The Old Town along the Mediterranean, with the Alps in the background.
The view from my roommate’s bedroom in our apartment, AKA the perfect spot to sit out on the balcony and people watch or watch the sunrise over the ocean.
The focus of my photoset was the theme of connection, and how the small size of my program promoted a close-knit community. Antibes, being a small city itself with its charming cobblestone streets and pastel buildings, was the perfect size for me to make it feel at home. My roommate’s bedroom view, where we watched the sunrise or people walking by, grounded us in our new routine in a completely new place. The pedestrian-friendly streets of the old town were more than just visually beautiful; they encouraged wandering, window shopping, and trying out new places to eat and mingle. Every walk was turned into an adventure in Antibes.
A glimpse of one of the beautiful, pedestrian friendly streets in the Old Town. I loved to walk through these streets and stop for a pastry or shop at one of the many clothing stores.
Me and some of the amazing friends I made during my semester abroad on a beach in Nice during sunset.
Some of the most meaningful moments came through the friendships that were created. Whether we were enjoying the sunset on the beach in Nice, sharing a cozy night at home with local bread and cheeses, or venturing out for a weekend excursion, these connections deeply shaped my experience. The photos I took in these moments captured the excitement, quiet comfort, and the joy of exploring a new culture together.

The natural beauty that the French Riviera has to offer is impossible to ignore. From the bright blue waters of Billionaire’s Bay to the Alps cascading behind the Mediterranean, to the rocky coast of the Cap d’ Antibes, each place helped to ground me and feel at peace while navigating life in a new location.
A view of Billionaire’s Bay: a hidden gem on the Cap D’Antibes where my friends and I would go swimming and sunbathe.

Finally, sharing a sunset Italian dinner with the friends I made along the way was a fitting end to one of many perfect days I had in the French Riviera. This experience reminded me that studying abroad is so much more than sightseeing and traveling, but also about living in the moment and enjoying each other’s company.

This experience taught me how to slow down, be adventurous and curious, and appreciate the little things. Upon returning, I have a deep appreciation for the connections formed with people, places, and ourselves throughout my journey. My hope is that this photoset can convey a glimpse of what it felt like living and belonging abroad.
