A Picturesque Snowstorm in Prague - Studying Abroad in Prague

A Picturesque Snowstorm in Prague

My purpose in this photoset was to illustrate the beauty of Prague in the wintertime. When I studied abroad, all the locals said that it hadn’t snowed in Prague in a few years due to the effects of climate change. During my last couple weeks in Prague, there was a substantial snowstorm, and I knew I had to get out of the apartment with my film camera and take as many photos as possible.

What I Captured

A city with many buildings and snow

View from the Národní Muzeum.

I first went to the Národní Muzeum in Old Town, and took some photos of Wenceslas square.

I then went to Náměstí Míru, which was right by our apartment on Záhřebská street. I took some photos of the Christmas markets at Náměstí Míru, and took photos of some of the facades of the beautiful buildings surrounding Náměstí Míru metro station.

There I spent a lot of time talking to locals about the snow, and many of them were very excited that their city was covered in a beautiful white blanket.

The locals said it used to snow all the time, and the Christmas markets were that much more special due to the snow. It was heartwarming to see so many locals bringing their families and kids and grandparents out to the Christmas markets and to play in the snow.

More Christmas market fun.

My final spot for the day was walking to a park just south of Náměstí Míru neighborhood in Prague 2. My favorite street in all of Prague is located on the north end of the park. All the buildings are different colors. It reminded me of Copenhagen, and a small town I visited while backpacking in the Isle of Skye, Portree.

It was one of my last days in Prague, and I’m so happy that I kept some film ready in case of a snowstorm. It captured Prague’s beauty in a way that I didn’t think I'd ever see, and I’m so grateful that the pictures turned out clear.
