What to Do in Sydney, Australia

During my semester in Sydney, I realized there are endless things to see and do (and eat)! I’ve rounded up all my favorites places and activities to help you out!

Walk from Coogee to Bondi Beach

Can’t decide what beach to go to? No worries, you can check out five of the best during this 6 km coastal walk. You’ll get beautiful views and exercise, with plenty of places to stop on the way and relax or cool off with a swim.

Explore King Street

Located in Newtown right outside of The University of Sydney’s campus (also an amazing place to hangout or study) is King Street. Grab a bite to eat at Italian Bowl or a coffee at Cafe Felix before wandering into cute boutiques like Stellino’s and The Bronze Snake. Grab some dessert afterward at Max Brenner’s or Messina.

Take a surf lesson at Maroubra Beach

There are plenty of beaches where you can catch some waves, but my favorite is Maroubra. The beaches along the coastal walk are a more popular option, but you’ll want somewhere quieter to focus on your lesson. Even if you don’t think you’ll be a pro, it’s still fun to try! Believe me, you’ll get the hang of it more quickly than you think.

Take in the beauty and atmosphere of The Grounds of Alexandria

Find yourself in a picture-worthy paradise at The Grounds of Alexandria. Go there for lunch, buy some plants, or even just walk around. It is an old industrial car yard transformed into a beautifully decorated space that consists of a restaurant, bakery, market, florist, and animal farm.

Find some furry friends at the WILDLIFE Sydney

This zoo has every animal you imagined seeing in Australia from wombats to quokkas! It’s located right on the Darling Harbour wharf, and allows a more close encounter with the animals than the Taronga Zoo. Not only can you get a picture with koalas, you can schedule a breakfast in their koala rooftop, and if you’re lucky, you’ll get the chance to pet a kangaroo!

Take a Harbour Cruise

The two most famous landmarks in Sydney are the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge, and there’s no better view of them than from the water. The early evening cruises are the best, because you can have dinner and enjoy the view at sunset.
