Rome is Where the Heart is

To be honest, a big reason as to why I chose to study in Rome was because it was one of the only countries that had the classes I needed to take. In fact, I looked through the CEA class forms, and Rome and Prague were the only two cities that had my courses. I did a little background research on both cities, and Rome sounded like a perfect place for me to study for four months.

This past weekend, I visited Prague with my friends to experience life in a different city. And for me it meant a lot more than just your typical study abroad weekend away. I enjoyed everything about Prague: the castles, unique architecture, medieval like feel, the hearty food, and kind people far surpassed my expectations.

However, once Sunday rolled around and it was time to go home, I felt ready and excited to be back in Rome. Rome. It’s my home. So weird to think about. I was ready to be back on the cobblestone roads, wandering around my neighborhood with my roommates and visiting our favorite gelato shop and talking to our favorite owner Francesco. For me Rome is home, and I love visiting different countries and taking day trips away and experiencing new places, but when it comes down to it I really love and miss Rome when I’m away!

I couldn’t be happier that I decided to study in Rome. From the people I’ve met, to the classes I’ve taken, and even to the picturesque walks to class, I enjoy every moment when I’m here. Being home isn’t even a thought that crosses my mind anymore. It’s all about taking in every moment that I can and appreciating the little things in life. Mexican food, my friends, family, and comfortable bed will be there when I get back. Right now, I’m learning to live in the moment, which is something I struggled with at the beginning of the semester.

I feel a close connection with Rome. It’s not just a foreign city anymore. Of course there is always an opportunity to learn and discover new things but I feel comfortable going out, doing more, taking in more. Of course, I appreciate everywhere I have to visit and what it has to offer, but when it comes down to it, Rome is where my heart is.
