Credit Transfer Information
University of New South Wales utilizes credit points and represent a measure of the student’s workload by subject. Most subjects at UNSW are 6 credit points each, which equals 4 credits in the U.S. semester system. Credit transfer is ultimately determined by your home university. Please consult with an academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.

Grading
Grade conversions from CEA CAPA partner institutions abroad to a US grading scale are determined in consultation with our School of Record and benchmarked with other peer institutions in the field.

Classroom and Information
- Classes are taught by UNSW and international faculty and represent a variety of different backgrounds.
- Periodic exams, homework assignments, and final exams will be administered.
- Attendance in all classes is mandatory and monitored by each professor.
- Teaching styles in Australia may differ from those in the U.S., and students need to be prepared to adapt to different classroom structures and coursework expectations.
- The maximum class size for lectures vary in size between 20-150 students, while tutorials have an average of 30 students per class, allowing for more personalized attention from instructors.

Program Structure & Courses
UNSW operates on a 1+3 model. In the first 4 weeks of the semester, you'll take an intensive course specifically designed for students studying abroad. Then you'll continue the semester by taking 3 UNSW courses from the full catalog of courses. Courses are offered in a broad range of disciplines, with academic strengths in STEM, computer science, business, language and linguistics, social justice, policy, and governance.
UNSW utilizes credit points and most subjects are 6 credit points each, which equals 4 credits in the U.S. semester system. You will earn 16 credits a semester, 4 from the intensive course, and 12 from the rest of the term. Academic class contact hours range depending on the course but are typically 4- 5 hours/class per week (depending on structure) and another four hours for work outside of classroom. Class meeting times vary across departments and subject areas.
Prior to departure, you will select your preferred courses. You will be enrolled in courses based on their availability. It is your best interest to have multiple alternative courses approved by your home university prior to your departure due. Please consult with your academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.

Navigating the University of New South Wales Website for Courses
Selecting your course:
- Prior to the start of your term, you will take an intensive 4-week course. This course is taken during the Summer Term (for Spring Students) or Winter Term (for Fall Students). This course will be on-campus and is built into your program dates.
- You can search for intensive courses here. Make sure you select the correct term. Intensive courses for the Fall are listed under Winter Term or Teaching Period 2-C (T2C). Intensive courses for the Spring are listed under Summer Term.
Selecting your term courses:
- After your intensive course, you will take 3 courses during the remaining term. You can search for Term courses here. Make sure to select Term 1 (for Spring Students) or Term 3 (for Fall Students).
Additional Notes about Selecting Courses:
- Make sure you choose courses offered at UNSW's Kensington or Paddington campus. They are both located in Sydney. Some of the Art courses are offered at the Paddington Campus, which is a short distance from the Kensington campus.
- Some courses may have pre-requisites requiring students to have already completed specific courses or equivalents at a lower level. Study abroad students are not expected to have taken the specific pre-requisite requirement but must have studied a relevant or similar course/module in your home country/institution. Students need to take academic experience into account when making course choices.
- Some courses may have co-requisites, which means that the course and the corequisite must be taken at the same time. Check the course description.
- At UNSW, courses are validated at a level corresponding to a particular year of study. The levels are as follows:
- 1000-level - which is equivalent to the 1st year of an undergraduate degree (beginner)
- 2000-level - which is equivalent to the 2nd year of an undergraduate degree (intermediate)
- 3000-level - which is equivalent to the 3rd year of an undergraduate degree (advanced)

Health & Safety
Health and safety are a top priority when selecting and reviewing program housing. When evaluating housing, CEA CAPA considers several factors including the surrounding location, commute time to academic or internship settings, as well as the condition of the building exterior and interior, common areas, the individual housing unit, and other living spaces. CEA CAPA works to ensure that program housing meets established minimum health and safety guidelines and aligns with best practices in the field.
Cleaning Services
Regular cleaning of communal areas for programs longer than 4 weeks.
Wi-Fi
Reliable internet access is included in every housing option we offer.
Students Per Bedroom
Typically 1–2 students per bedroom, with a maximum of 3 per room.
Commute Time
Housing is located within 60 minutes of campus by foot or transportation.
Temperature Control
Cooling and heating appliances are provided (AC not always included).
Kitchen Access
A shared space with basic utensils, refrigerator, freezer, and a stove, oven, or microwave.
Laundry
Access to laundry is guaranteed onsite or within walking distance. Drying racks included.
Study Space
A desk in your room or a table in a common area.
Storage Space
Practical, modest storage space for personal belongings.
Linens

This option includes access to a pool, gym, and sauna, along with free laundry facilities and a cleaning service.
This housing option is included in the program price.

Enjoy the ultimate convenience of apartment-style living combined with the essential services of a hotel, located within convenient access to public transportation. You will enjoy a private bedroom and will share the apartment with other students. Meals are not included but a kitchen with basic kitchenware is provided. Excursions
Get out and explore! Excursions are offered for most semester, year, and summer programs. Semester students are typically offered between two to three excursions and summer study students are typically offered between one to two excursions. You'll receive a calendar of excursions during orientation; here are a few day and overnight excursions we've offered in the past.
