Located south of the center of the city, University College Dublin (UCD) is a large, prestigious institution and part of the National University of Ireland system. UCD is ranked within the top 1% of higher education institutions world-wide and considered one of Ireland's most globally engaged university. UCD offers a broad range of courses for study abroad students, including in STEM, business, and the arts.
Credit Transfer Information
University College Dublin awards credits based on the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) system. CEA CAPA credit hour recommendations are based on the following conversion: 2 ECTS credits equals 1 U.S. semester credit. Credit transfer is ultimately determined by your home university. Please consult with an academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.
Transcript Information
Students receive a transcript from University College Dublin upon successful completion of the program. The transcript will reflect ECTS credits.
Accreditation
University College Dublin is accredited by the Department of Education and Skills. In addition, UCD is accredited by EQUIS (European Quality Improvement System), AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) and AMBA (Association for MBA programs).
Grading
Grade conversions from CEA CAPA partner institutions abroad to a US grading scale are determined in consultation with our School of Record and benchmarked with other peer institutions in the field.
Please note that CEA CAPA can only recommend grade conversions to students’ home institutions—it is ultimately at the discretion of the home institution to convert grades from abroad to students’ academic records.

Classroom and Information
Periodic exams, homework assignments, and final exams will be administered.
Attendance in some classes is mandatory and monitored by professors.
Teaching styles in Ireland may differ from those in the U.S. Be prepared to adapt to different classroom structures and coursework expectations.
Class size ranges between 15 and 30 students for upper division courses, and 50 to 300 students for lectures.
You will attend class with CEA CAPA participants, other international students, and Irish students.

Program Structure & Courses
Enroll in 4-6 UCD courses, 12-18 US credit equivalents. Contact hours and meeting times vary; courses may be structured as seminars, lectures, or tutorials.

Students will register for modules (what we call courses in the U.S.) around a month prior to the start of the program.
It is in your best interest to have multiple alternative courses approved by your home university prior to your departure due to course availabilities. Please consult with your academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.

CEA CAPA recommend securing academic approval of 8-10 courses prior to departing for the program. It is recommended that students take between four and six modules.

Module registrations take place in three phases:
1. Register student account (2-4 weeks prior to program start)
2. Register for modules within a department (1-2 weeks prior)
3. Register for modules outside of the department (in-country) via the study abroad program manager within their department

Health & Safety
Health and safety are a top priority when selecting and reviewing program housing. When evaluating housing, CEA CAPA considers several factors including the surrounding location, commute time to academic or internship settings, as well as the condition of the building exterior and interior, common areas, the individual housing unit, and other living spaces. CEA CAPA works to ensure that program housing meets established minimum health and safety guidelines and aligns with best practices in the field.
Cleaning Services
Regular cleaning of communal areas for programs longer than 4 weeks.
Wi-Fi
Reliable internet access is included in every housing option we offer.
Students Per Bedroom
Typically 1–2 students per bedroom, with a maximum of 3 per room.
Commute Time
Housing is located within 60 minutes of campus by foot or transportation.
Temperature Control
Cooling and heating appliances are provided (AC not always included).
Kitchen Access
A shared space with basic utensils, refrigerator, freezer, and a stove, oven, or microwave.
Laundry
Access to laundry is guaranteed onsite or within walking distance. Drying racks included.
Study Space
A desk in your room or a table in a common area.
Storage Space
Practical, modest storage space for personal belongings.
Linens
Pillows, blankets and sheets.

Apartment Shared Room
Summer Only
Enjoy the local life in Dublin from an apartment shared with other students. You'll share your bedroom with up to two students, creating an instant community and a lively home base. Apartments include a washing machine, clothes drying rack, and basic kitchen utensils.

Premium Residence Private Room
Summer Only
Indulge in a superior level of student living in our premium student residence hall. You'll enjoy the privacy of your own bedroom with ensuite bathroom, while living alongside other flatmates sharing a full kitchen and living area. The building features pay-per-use washer & dryer facilities.
This housing option carries a supplemental fee that may vary depending on the included amenities as well as the length of the program. The exact amount will be provided on the housing application form.
Student Residence - University College Dublin (Direct Enroll Only)
UCD Student Residences are only available to students in University College Dublin programs.
Immerse into Irish student life when you live in a UCD Student Residence. Located within easy access to all campus restaurants, coffee shops, bookshop, convenience store, libraries, student clubs, health centre, travel centre, bank and post office, Student Residences are located on the main UCD campus and typically house Irish, international, and North American students. Student Residence - Dublin City University (Direct Enroll Only)
DCU Student Residences are only available to students in Dublin City University programs.

If you enjoy living in a student community and want to make friends from all over the world, this housing option is a great fit for you. Students studying at Dublin City University will select their housing through the DCU portal.

Student Residence - Griffith College (Direct Enroll Only)
Griffith College Student Residences are only available to students in Griffith College Direct Enroll programs.

Student Residence - Maynooth University (Direct Enroll Only)
This housing option is only available for students enrolled at Maynooth University.
Located on the fringes of Dublin in Ireland’s only university town, Maynooth University is part of the National University of Ireland. Immerse into Irish student life when you live in a Student Residence 25 miles outside of Dublin. If you enjoy living in a student community and want to make friends from all over the world, this housing option is a great fit for you.

Get out and explore! Excursions are offered for most semester, year, and summer programs. Semester students are typically offered between two to three excursions and
summer study students are typically offered between one to two excursions. You'll receive a calendar of excursions during orientation; here are a few day and overnight
