University of Galway (previously known as the National University of Ireland, Galway) was founded in 1849. Today, it’s one of Ireland's most prestigious teaching and research institutions. Situated on the banks of the River Corrib, near Galway’s center, the university features a mix of historic and modern buildings. More than 17,000 students attend classes on the lovely 260-acre campus, with more over 1,000 international students per year. Here, you’ll integrate into the Irish student population and choose courses from more than 50 departments, including arts, law, commerce, and science. Courses consist of small seminars and tutorial sessions; many combine both, allowing you the opportunity to get to know your individual disciplines and work together with other students. In addition to enjoying the excellent academics offered at the University of Galway, you will have access to a wide variety of clubs and societies, computer labs, library, recreation halls and gym, student center, and guidance from the International Education Office. The relaxed, friendly atmosphere at the University of Galway makes for a thoroughly enjoyable and holistic study abroad experience.
Credit Transfer Information
University of Galway awards credits based on the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) system. CEA CAPA credit hour recommendations are based on the following conversion: 2 ECTS credits equals 1 U.S. semester credit. Credit transfer is ultimately determined by your home university. Please consult with an academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.

Students receive a transcript from the University of Galway upon successful completion of the program. The transcript will reflect ECTS credits.

The University of Galway is accredited by the National University of Ireland, a federal University. It's Business School is also accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and the Association for MBA programs (AMBA).
Grading
Grade conversions from CEA CAPA partner institutions abroad to a US grading scale are determined in consultation with our School of Record and benchmarked with other peer institutions in the field.

Classroom and Information
- International faculty from the University of Galway will teach your elective courses.
- Periodic exams, homework assignments, and final exams will be administered.
- Attendance in some classes is mandatory and monitored by professors.
- Teaching styles in Ireland may be different from those found in the U.S. or Canada. Be prepared to adapt to different classroom structures and coursework expectations for your school.
- Class size ranges between 15 and 30 students for upper division courses, and between 50 and 300 students for lectures.
- You will be in class with CEA CAPA participants, other international students, and Irish students.

Program Structure & Courses
You will enroll in 2 business courses. Each course is worth 3 credits/45 contact hours. Students may earn 6 total credits (up to 90 contact hours). Classes meet for 10-20 hours per week.
You'll select your preferred courses prior to arriving in Galway. Formal course registration will take place during orientation once you arrive onsite. It is in your best interest to have multiple alternative courses approved by your home university prior to your departure due to course availabilities. Please consult with your academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.

Your housing abroad is more than a place to sleep, it's a place to feel at home.
Health & Safety
Health and safety are a top priority when selecting and reviewing program housing. When evaluating housing, CEA CAPA considers several factors including the surrounding location, commute time to academic or internship settings, as well as the condition of the building exterior and interior, common areas, the individual housing unit, and other living spaces. CEA CAPA works to ensure that program housing meets established minimum health and safety guidelines and aligns with best practices in the field.
Cleaning Services
Regular cleaning of communal areas for programs longer than 4 weeks.
Wi-Fi
Reliable internet access is included in every housing option we offer.
Students Per Bedroom
Typically 1–2 students per bedroom, with a maximum of 3 per room.
Commute Time
Housing is located within 60 minutes of campus by foot or transportation.
Temperature Control
Cooling and heating appliances are provided (AC not always included).
Kitchen Access
A shared space with basic utensils, refrigerator, freezer, and a stove, oven, or microwave.
Laundry
Access to laundry is guaranteed onsite or within walking distance. Drying racks included.
Study Space
A desk in your room or a table in a common area.
Storage Space
Practical, modest storage space for personal belongings.

Apartment Private Room

This option offers a private bedroom and shared use of a common area and kitchen with 5-7 other students.

Excursions
Get out and explore! Excursions are offered for most semester, year, and summer programs. Semester students are typically offered between two to three excursions and summer study students are typically offered between one to two excursions. You'll receive a calendar of excursions during orientation; here are a few day and overnight excursions we've offered in the past.
