Program Structure & Courses

The structure of your program will be based on the language level at which you place on your language placement exam. The program is composed of French language courses, and/or language & culture electives. Based on your language level, you may be able to choose only a French language course, only French elective courses, or a combination of a French language course and French electives.

Language courses meet for 151 or 252 contact hours/10 or 16 credits; each elective course meets for 50 contact hours/3 credits. You may earn 16 credits (up to 252 contact hours) per semester and 32 credits (up to 504 contact hours) per academic year. You have the option to add contact hours to your program (extra fee will apply).

Language course schedules vary based on contact hours, elective courses meet once a week. Classes may be held in the morning or afternoon, Monday-Friday.

Prior to departure you will take an online language placement exam and select your courses. You will be enrolled into courses based on their availability and the result of your placement exams. It is in your best interest to have multiple alternative courses approved by your home university prior to your departure due to course availabilities. To ensure that you receive credit for the language level into which you place, have your home school pre-approve courses at several levels before you leave for France. Please consult with your academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.
