About the Program

Set yourself apart from the competition by taking engineering and math courses abroad. Paris is a city where many scientists and mathematicians have made significant contributions to the field making it an ideal destination for engineering majors or students in other STEM fields looking to satisfy technical and/or math requirements. You’ll experience Paris as a learning lab through site visits and lectures which complement your classroom curriculum. Additional elective courses focus on aspects of French culture and may fulfill a humanities or social science requirement. While French language skills are not required for the program, you’ll likely acquire basic French and use it to navigate this historic city.

Program Structure & Courses

You'll enroll in 1 CEA CAPA core course, and 3-4 CEA CAPA courses. If you enroll in the early start semester option in the fall, you'll also take 1 CEA CAPA French language course. Course availability and requirements varies by term. All non-French language courses are taught in English.

Engineering courses meet for 60 hours/4 credits or 45 hours/3 credits. CEA CAPA language and elective courses meet for 45 hours/3 credits. You may earn 15-18 credits (up to 270 contact hours); if you choose the Early Start option in the Fall, you may earn 18-21 credits (up to 315 contact hours).

Typically, courses meet 1-3 times per week, Monday-Thursday. Early Start courses meet daily, Monday-Thursday. Active learning components required by your courses may be scheduled on Fridays.

Prior to departure, you will select your preferred courses. If you choose to enroll in French Language as one of your electives, you will take an online language placement exam. After arriving in Paris, you’ll also take an oral language placement exam. You will be enrolled into courses based on their availability and the result of your placement exam. It is in your best interest to have multiple alternative courses approved by your home university prior to your departure due to course availabilities. Please consult with your academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.
