Accreditation
Courses taught at the CEA CAPA Rome Center have been designed in conjunction with, and approved by, the University of New Haven (UNH). In addition, faculty appointments have been approved by UNH. After the successful completion of a session at the CEA CAPA Rome Center, you will receive credit for your work from UNH. Located in Connecticut, the University of New Haven is a student-focused, comprehensive university that’s fully accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE). The agreement between CEA CAPA and UNH follows the highest standards of good practice in education abroad and satisfies the rigorous requirements of the University's institutional accreditor, making credits earned at the CEA CAPA Rome Center easily transferable to US-accredited institutions. Grading
Professors at the CEA CAPA Rome Center will carefully evaluate your work and progress throughout the academic session. When calculating final grades, instructors consider written and oral exercises, homework assignments, attendance, classroom participation, and exam performance.

Classroom and Information
- Classes are taught by international faculty selected by CEA CAPA and approved by the University of New Haven.

Faculty are bilingual (English/Italian) and represent diverse backgrounds.

Periodic exams, homework assignments, and final exams will be administered.

Attendance in all classes is mandatory and monitored by each professor.

You’ll attend class with other CEA CAPA students of equivalent language levels, not with native Italian students.

Teaching styles in Italy may differ from those in the U.S. Be prepared to adapt to different classroom structures and coursework expectations.
- Language and elective course sizes range from 10 to 20 students. Small class sizes mean more personalized attention from instructors.

Program Structure & Courses
Students with no previous knowledge of Italian language enroll in 1 CEA beginning language course and choose 1-3 CEA core courses, 0-3 CEA optional electives, and 0-2 optional electives at our partner, the Providence College Center for Theology & Religious Studies (PC). Students at the high-beginning and above Italian language level enroll in 1-3 CEA core courses and choose 0-3 CEA elective courses and 0-2 PC elective courses.
CEA language courses meet for 60 contact hours/4 credits. CEA core courses, CEA elective courses, and PC elective courses meet for 45 contact hours/3 credits.
You may earn 12-16 credits (up to 240 contact hours). CEA classes meet 1-4 times per week, Monday-Thursday. Active learning components required by your courses may be scheduled on Friday.
Prior to departure, you'll select your preferred courses and indicate your estimated Italian language level. You will be enrolled into courses based on their availability. After you arrive in Rome, you'll take a language placement exam to determine final placement. It is in your best interest to have multiple alternative courses approved by your home university prior to your departure due to course availability. To ensure that you receive credit for the language level you place into, have your home school pre-approve courses at several levels before you leave for Italy. Please consult with your academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.

Generally located in the Prati neighborhood, these apartments cater perfectly to the independent, do-it-yourself type students who want to experience Rome as a local apartment-dweller would. Whip up some homemade pasta carbonara in your own, equipped kitchen, crack open your window, and watch the Italian world unfold before your eyes.

Ciao! Choose to live in a CEA CAPA apartment along with an Italian University student as one of your roommates. Your Italian roommate will be a true part of your Roman experience and household giving you the opportunity to engage in the local community with more ease. By choosing to live with an Italian student, you will have a resource to help you make the most out of your time abroad experiencing Rome and Italy through their eyes, too. The Italian roommate will share a bedroom with one or two CEA CAPA students in an apartment shared with other CEA CAPA students.
Apartments are generally located in the Prati neighborhood and are perfect for a student who wants to experience Rome as a local would, taking on the Italian culture and language as part of their daily life. Who better to learn from than your Italian roommate on: how to make an espresso, where to go for the best pizza in Rome, practice Italian, or how to make authentic lasagna? Fantastico!
*Note: One Italian University student will share a bedroom with 1-2 other CEA CAPA students within an apartment shared with other CEA CAPA students. By choosing this option, you may or may not share a bedroom with the Italian University student in your apartment. Please note, there is limited availability of apartments with an Italian Roommate.

Excursions
Get out and explore! Excursions are offered for most semester, year, and summer programs. Semester students are typically offered between two to three excursions and summer study students are typically offered between one to two excursions. You'll receive a calendar of excursions during orientation; here are a few day and overnight excursions we've offered in the past.
