DESCRIPTION
This module covers the emergence of cinema as an art and an industry and then goes on to explore the
relationships between cinema and different forms of critical theory. The latter part of the module will pay
particular attention to the contested idea of ‘national cinemas’, the status of ‘art cinema’ and cinema as art and
some approaches to ‘film language’, cinema and representation, cinema and fantasy.
