DESCRIPTION
This module includes lectures and laboratory classes on digital control systems modelling and also analysis & design techniques. Topics include Phase-lead compensation, Basics of digital control, Representation of digital control systems in s-plane and z-plane, Interpretation of pole-zero maps in z-plane, Frequency-folding effects and Digital design by emulation.
Learning Outcomes 1. Design a phase-lead compensator to achieve defined performance specifications. [POa, POb, POc] 2. Analyse the performance of a phase-lead compensator vs. required specifications. [POa, POb] 3. Model all components of a digital control system in the z-domain. [POa] 4. Map pole and zero locations from the z-plane to the s-plane and thereby predict the closed-loop performance of a digital system. [POa, POb] 5. Analyse the response of a digital control system vs. an equivalent analog one and explain differences caused by frequency folding effects or the presence of zeros. [POa, POb] 6.
