DESCRIPTION

Learning Outcomes
1. Determine fundamental physical and thermodynamic properties and models for fluids and solids.
2. State and explain the First and Second Laws of Thermodynamics.
3. Analyse energy transfer and conversion in piston-cylinder systems using the First and Second Laws.
4. Calculate the performance of ideal gas power cycles such as the Stirling cycle, and design cycles to attain specified performance.
5. Apply some fundamental principles of fluid statics to liquids and gases.
6. Identify a fluid control volume and the associated mass and momentum flows.
7. Apply mass, momentum and energy conservation to a control volume.
8. Decide whether Bernoulli's equation is applicable, and apply it.
