DESCRIPTION

This course provides an introduction to key concepts in the discipline of sociology. Sociology is the systematic study of human behavior and the social world. In developing what theorist C. Wright Mills called your sociological imagination, you will learn to use sociological concepts, methods and theories to help you analyze some of the key social processes affecting world citizens today. In this course, we will study sociology not only as an academic discipline but also as a way of perceiving and understanding the social world. We will examine topics such as agency, culture, social class, race, ethnicity, gender, and the effects of institutions such as the media. In addition to developing the ability to understand and apply sociological concepts, we will also work together to form a safe and productive learning community.
