DESCRIPTION
This course explores the rich history, poetic traditions, and cultural impact of Andalusi Music. From its origins in Islamic Spain to its lasting influence on flamenco, fado, and other musical traditions, students will examine key forms such as the Muwashshah, Zajal, and Nuba.
Through an analysis of musical structures, instrumentation, and performance practices, this course highlights the fusion of Arab, Berber, and Iberian influences that shaped Andalusi music. Additionally, we will discuss efforts to preserve and revive this musical heritage in contemporary contexts.
By the end of the course, students will explore the rich artistic traditions and historical significance of Andalusi music from a broad perspective.
