DESCRIPTION

The main aim of this course is to further develop your writing skills in English. For this course we focus on your position as a writer in the academic world, i.e. as someone who is engaged in academic discourse. This means that you need to be aware of appropriate structures at sentence level as well as at text level, of ways of using language to refer to other writers, and of ways of using academic language effectively. The emphasis in this course is on (a) gaining more insight into the language and style of your own academic discipline, (b) improving coherence, compactness and readability, and (c) expanding your grammatical repertoire.

Contact hours listed under a course description may vary due to the combination of lecture-based and independent work required for each course therefore, CEA's recommended credits are based on the ECTS credits assigned by VU Amsterdam. 1 ECTS equals 28 contact hours assigned by VU Amsterdam.
