This is a highly multidisciplinary course based on economics of innovation, sustainability studies, economic geography, and development studies. The course will start with an introduction to sustainability science, the hard and soft notions of sustainability, and discuss how economic growth relates to socially inclusive and environmentally sustainable development. The students will learn about the different types of innovations and how they relate to one another in socio-technical systems, and, ultimately, how they can undergo sustainable transformations. The latter will be related to larger issues of governance in a highly globalized world.
