DESCRIPTION

European Economic Integration and the World Economy. The course studies the main turning points of economic integration and the economic instruments that areused within the European Union. The relation between European economic policies and the socio-economic effects are analysed in depth as well as the rise of the EU as a global economic actor. The European Union is an economic actor within a unique political context. This course employs a Political Economy approach to understanding various EU economic policies, such as: the single market, single currency, regional policy, trade and international relations, immigration issues, and potential exit issues. Not all of these issues can be covered in depth in a single semester. Some topics will be much shorter than others. Basic knowledge of EU institutions and Economics is assumed. The course will be structured around issues and policies. The economics employed for instruction will be descriptive.
