Italy, which will serve as a starting point for a preliminary understanding of who are the actors, what are the norms, who enforces them, in the international legal order.
The rest of the course will be divided into two Parts. Part I will cover the structure of international law, focusing on the main subjects - states - and non-state actors, on processes through which international law is made, and on methods of implementation.
Part 2 will cover the substance of international law, that is the specific areas of regulation and the content of such regulation. Specific attention will be given to a series of contemporary topics, such as the protection of human rights, the global environment, the relationship between international law and culture, with a view to showing students the dynamic evolution of international system and its capacity of self renewal at a time of global change
