DESCRIPTION
The Mediterranean basin is a mosaic of cultures, reflected in the diversity of languages, religions, customs, arts and traditions that make each of its countries unique. And yet, its peoples have blended their cultures in many ways through the contacts they have had over time to the present day. So how to think about identity? What are its implications in today's societies? And what role do museums play in the matter? Based on the study of objects and pictures showcased in the Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations, this course explores the heritage left by cities - such as Athens, Venise, Genoa, Istanbul or Marseille - to gain insight into the many facets of today's Mediterranean identities.
