DESCRIPTION

This course examines sustainable development through Spain's environmental challenges, focusing on Barcelona's innovative urban planning. Students explore Mediterranean ecosystems, historical resource use, and contemporary strategies for managing urban and natural resources. Barcelona serves as a living laboratory, with case studies on Pla Cerdà, the superblocks model, climate adaptation, and Agenda 2030 initiatives addressing mobility, green infrastructure, and climate change. The course also considers regional issues such as fire management, water resources, energy transition, and biodiversity conservation. Field studies of Barcelona's urban interventions and a research project provide hands-on experience in evaluating and designing sustainability solutions from local and global perspectives.
