Software Projects Goldsmiths - Computer Science Program Fall 2021 Semester - London

This module gives students the opportunity to work in a group on a substantial software project, including technical, social and creative aspects of that project. This module will take students through the entire software production process, from user centred design, to proposal development and implementation. This module will have a particular focus on user centred design. This will re-enforce abilities in project management, planning, critical awareness and design that students need to develop in order to create better software.

The primary focus of this module will be the development in a group of a substantial piece of software. While all students will be expected to take account of algorithmic, social and creative elements of the project the exact focus of the project will depend on the students degree programme.The first term of the module will consist primarily in project preparation, with a particular focus on user centred design. Students will be guided through the process of proposing and designing a project, including researching the technological, social and creative context of the project. A key part of this will be an identification of target users and using contemporary user centred design methods. At the end of the first term students will submit a project proposal, including user centred research, a design of the software and an initial prototype.
