DESCRIPTION
This course examines the science of happiness and well-being from a psychological perspective, exploring cultural, biological, and social factors that shape how individuals and societies pursue happiness. Using London as a case study, students analyze how its history, traditions, and social dynamics influence local conceptions of well-being. Topics include positive psychology, resilience, life satisfaction, mindfulness, gratitude, and the role of community, values, and purpose. Students also consider personality, relationships, and socioeconomic factors in global contexts. Through lectures, discussions, and experiential activities such as field visits, the course critically evaluates research on happiness and addresses practical strategies for enhancing well-being. By the end, students gain a nuanced understanding of happiness and tools to improve personal and collective well-being, applying insights to their lives and communities.
