DESCRIPTION
This course offers an introduction to the history of Great Britain from the era of Roman rule to the beginning of the nineteenth century. It surveys a broad range of central problems and processes that, collectively, helped to make modern Britain: waves of settlers and the formation of kingdoms, the development of enduring legal and constitutional institutions and solutions, the sometimes bitter and bloody divisions over religion and political authority and finally the advent of industrialization and the emergence of Britain as a global power.
