DESCRIPTION
Today more than 50% of human beings live in urban spaces, that is, cities or similar areas. This percentage rises to 70/80% in Europe and North America. Urban life is an ancient form of living, but it has never been as widespread as it is today. On one hand, the political, cultural, scientific and technological progress of human beings has been caused precisely by the type of life that is characteristic of cities. On the other hand, human beings who live in cities are those who today contribute most to climate change and who will suffer (and are already suffering) its consequences more than anyone else.
Urban spaces are at the center of civilization processes and are laden with history. However, today they are at the center of conflicts and new problems. The course aims to explore the history and present of cities from an ethical-political point of view, addressing issues such as the relationship between cities and democracy, the relationship between human beings and the non-human world in urban spaces, the climate impact of urban life, and the ethics and politics of urban planning.
