DESCRIPTION
Just because you can post a basic video to YouTube, it doesn't mean you're a reporter or a video producer. You need the specific news production skills which are now integral to any journalism, communications or public relations job -- and useful in many other professions. In this course, students will learn how broadcast, print and online media have converged, discover social media as a reporting tool and gain a basic understanding of broadcast news writing, reporting, interviewing and producing -- including camera work, editing techniques and talent performance.
Each student will write a short, fully-realized news or feature script aimed at visual story telling. Students together will then choose one script, shoot video, record narration and edit the material into a finished ?package? which will be posted online. The techniques used will help build a journalism career -- or enhance the communication skills needed for public relations, management or personal projects. Students will also become familiar with accepted journalistic practices, including ethics and their application to everyday issues.
