DESCRIPTION

1) The student can describe and analyse the main outline of the history of Islamic societies after 1800 from Iran, Turkey, Egypt, Middle East, Africa, Indian-Pakistani subcontinent, Southeast Asia, Europe.
2) The student is thoroughly acquainted with the movements within modern Islam. Can therefore describe, analyse and evaluate Sunni Islam (including the four law schools and Salafism), Shi'a Islam, Sufism and
Kalaam schools. Can also explain the main differences.
3) The student is able to analyse these movements in their current and historical social and political context.
4) With the required prior knowledge and required bibliographic knowledge, the student is able to delve further into the history of Islam in one of the following areas: Iran, Turkey, Egypt, Middle East, Africa, Indian-Pakistani subcontinent, Southeast Asia , Europe. This allows the student to connect the earlier developments with the current situations in the above countries.
5) The student is able to critically analyze the emergence of modern Islam through movements such as colonialism, nationalism, secularism, liberalism, fundamentalism and extremism.
