| The variety in wardrobes in Europe, just like in the US, is enormous. Any given day and in any given plaza, you'll see formal outfits, casual outfits, and everything in between. |
When I committed to studying abroad in Granada, one of the first things people asked me was “What are you going to pack?” To be honest, I was asking myself the same thing. I had never been to Spain before and had no clue what to pack to avoid looking like a tourist; however, after 8 months living here, I’d like to think that I’ve more or less gotten a feel for the Spanish style. Below you’ll find some of the trends I’m currently seeing in the streets of Granada, along with the wardrobe items I've found most useful during my time here.

First things first, ditch the leggings and invest in some pants. Leggings here are considered exercise clothes, and very few people wear them outside of the gym. The stores here carry joggers, comfy mom jeans or stretchy skinnies, "legging" style dress pants, and much more. These are what you'll see the majority of the population wearing. Having a few nice bottoms and a few nice tops that you can mix and match with gives you an endless number of outfit combinations to choose from.

Another important piece of the Granadino wardrobe: tights. Walking through the streets of Granada, you'll see every type of tight and pantyhose in existence. Black, nude, fishnets, patterned, colorful, and every variation in between can be found in one of the many shops here dedicated solely to tights and socks. They're easy to pack, comfortable to wear, and a lifesaving layer of protection against those icy Sierra Nevada nighttime winds. Granadinos can be seen pairing them with a skirt or dress, or layering them under ripped jeans for an edgier look.
And the final two pieces to your wardrobe: sneakers and a jean jacket. Sneakers are 100% necessary for all of the walking you'll be doing in the city (or during your travels!). Cobblestone streets look romantic, but they're difficult to walk on, so pack a pair of cute sneakers that you'll be comfortable in all day long. Finally, jean jackets are not only cute and practical, but they're also having a huge moment in Granada. Pair yours with a dress like Sam did below, with a skirt, joggers, or dress pants, or channel that iconic 2001 Britney Spears/JT moment and work denim on denim.
