Barcelona Tapas Cooking Workshop

As part of our immersion activities in Barcelona, the CEA's study abroad students had the opportunity to take part in a practical Tapas Cooking Workshop during the months of October and November. The idea behind this initiative is to get the students to learn a bit about the delicious traditional Spanish dishes, called Tapas, and to give the students the chance to try it at home. These sessions have been organized with small groups of no more than 12 participants, enabling the workshop session to be more productive give students a better grasp on the concepts. The participants got fully involved chopping potatoes to make ‘tortilla de patatas’, cutting and adding ingredients to make a selection of hot and cold tapas. CEA students were also able to learn the basics of Spanish vocabulary related to cooking such as the words for ingredients, and cooking utensils, etc. The workshop was held fully in Spanish, with some translating from the CEA staff that came handy in order to avoid the students from cutting their fingers when pealing a potato (most of them had never pealed one!) At the end of the session we all sat down around a table and ate them all. The students had a fantastic experience at the same time than having fun in this culinary hands-on immersion experience.
