How Florence Became My Home Away From Home

With the wide variety of locations CEA CAPA has to offer for study abroad, I had a complicated decision to make. I knew that I wanted to be in a smaller city where I could immerse myself in the local culture and was immediately drawn to Italy because of its incredible food and beautiful culture. After hearing several friends have nothing but positive things to say about their experiences studying in Florence through CEA CAPA, I decided it was the perfect place for me.

Adjusting to a new city in a foreign country was definitely a challenge for me but with the help of CEA CAPA and being in one of the most beautiful places in the world, I have found my favorite spots and could not have chosen a better city to spend my time abroad in!

Florence has such a warm and inviting atmosphere, it is impossible to not fall in love with it.

Over time, I have discovered my favorite spots around the city, whether it is a peaceful park to read and relax in or my favorite gelato spots whenever I’m in the mood for something sweet.

CEA CAPA provided a gelato tour and introduced me to some of my favorite gelato spots.

Some of my favorite memories so far include exploring the local markets, watching the sunset from Piazzale Michelangelo, and activities organized by CEA CAPA that have let me explore the less touristy parts of Florence.

This experience so far has not only helped me grow more independent and confident in myself, but it has also deepened my appreciation for a culture other than my own and connecting with its people.

My roommate Bayla, who I was randomly matched with through CEA CAPA, has become someone I absolutely love!
