Embracing Sydney's Active Lifestyle While Abroad
Sydneysiders are known for their active lifestyles; the city has an abundance of run clubs, gyms, outdoor spaces, and other opportunities that encourage active living. I have been embracing this lifestyle in three unique ways: trying new workout studios, joining a club gymnastics team, and going on stunning coastal walks.
Finding New Workout Studios
Exploring workout studios is not only a fun way to exercise but also a way to explore different neighborhoods in the Sydney area. I love that every place I try has something special to offer, keeping my workout regimen interesting.

This is the famous wall in Body By Berner’s mat Pilates studio, located in north Bondi. With floor to ceiling windows, a calming blue and white color scheme, and the handing out of affirmation cards at the end of every workout, Body By Berner places an emphasis on the aesthetics and overall experience that make their classes unique.

Lean Bean Fitness is another mat Pilates studio in Bondi. The class I took here was a heated one.

GROUNDUP is a reformer Pilates studio in Alexandria. I love the neutral colors of the decor, and my instructor was amazing!

Combine Air is another reformer Pilates studio with a twist. Their classes involve simulated altitude training, which reduces the oxygen in the room and has been proven to enhance endurance and strength.

Lagree FIT is a great place to come to when I want a challenge. Lagree is a similar workout to Pilates but much more intense.
My Club Gymnastics Team
Another way I embraced the active lifestyle was by joining a club gymnastics team. I was really excited when I found the opportunity to reconnect with my childhood sport through the University of Sydney Club Gymnastics program. Even though I wasn’t taking my classes at this University, all USYD recreational sports are open to not just USYD students but the local community as well.

This is part of the USYD gym. I went to a mix of structured sessions and open training during my time here.
Taking a Walk
Lastly, going on walks kept me active and outdoors. The Coogee to Bondi walk is one of Sydney’s most iconic coastal hikes. Along the way, there are several beautiful beaches where you will see people tanning, swimming, surfing, or spending time with friends.

Coogee Pavilion, where the walking trail starts.

A stunning view of Tamarama Beach, a little over halfway through the walk. This is a great beach to watch surfers.

Maps and signs like these are consistently posted along the trail.
The walk ends at Bondi Beach, where you can see the entire beach and town from the top of the hill.

The picturesque Bondi Icebergs.
