Five Essential Apps for Studying Abroad in Europe

Smartphone apps

After a few weeks in your global city, one thing that may happen to you is that you will forget that you are abroad, and a tourist. You will get used to your new routine and will not see time go by, therefore, you will forget to explore, connect, and immerse yourself in the city. Don't worry, there are a myriad of apps, blogs, and Instagram pages that are here to remind you that you are in a wonderful city and that you better explore every inch of it-maybe not literally though.

Citymapper

CITYMAPPER

The first app I recommend is my holy grail. I have not stopped using it since I discovered it on my first solo trip two years ago. If you are anything like me, maps don't make any sense to you, and you want an app to do all the work for you. In this case, Citymapper will be your best friend.

Citymapper is perfect for use in big cities and is adapted for walking, cycling, scootering, and public transportation. It is ideal for me in London.

Omio

OMIO

The second one is my go-to app to find cheap flights, buses, and train tickets. Omio curates a variety of choices for you, and you can choose the one that works for you depending on your budget.

If you want to explore other cities in the country you are studying abroad in but want to try to spend the least amount possible (broke student life), you'll love Omio.

Eventbrite

EVENTBRITE

This app is great if you like events. Eventbrite is an online event hub and proposes multiple types of events for all age ranges. The events may vary from the cultural, professional, or recreational type. One of the events I attended here in London was a conversation and a sip and paint named "The Black Joy Experience." I loved it, and it allowed me to make a few friends and a professional connection.

I 100% recommend Eventbrite.

Flixbus & Trainline (Mostly for Travel in Europe)

FLIXBUS

TRAINLINE

If your CEA CAPA study abroad and/or internship experience is taking place in Europe, these two apps will be very useful for you if you are looking for cheap trains or buses.

I was able to get a roundtrip bus ticket from London to Manchester for £12 through Flixbus. It's a company similar to Greyhound or Megabus and is also available in the US.

If you like road trips in Europe, these are gems!

I hope these apps will allow you to explore and enjoy your time abroad. Remember: immerse yourself in the life and culture as much as you can!
