As you get close to your study or intern abroad experience, or if you’re planning to go abroad in spring, it’s important to be aware of and understand the COVID-19 restrictions abroad. Let us lay out the facts and what you need to know about the new Green Pass requirements so you can make the most of your time abroad!

Due to the recent rise of COVID-19 cases around the world, many governments have established additional restrictions for those who are unvaccinated to avoid re-closing public spaces and services. A “Green Pass” (or in some countries, a “Health Pass”) has been introduced in countries around the globe.

What is a Green Pass?

A Green Pass is a paper document or app that shows a person has either been fully vaccinated for COVID-19, has proof of a recent negative PCR test, or has recovered from COVID-19 in the past 180 days. This grants them access to indoor restaurants, bars, cafés, stores, long-distance transportation, university buildings, and other indoor venues.

Here’s what you need to know:

In most countries, a Green Pass is required for:

1.
Access to local services
2.
Entrance to establishments and events (restaurants, cafés, bars, shopping malls, museums, tourist attractions, cinemas, gyms, etc.)
3.
Domestic and international travel

  • Countries requiring a Green Pass (where CEA operates programs) include but are not limited to: France, Italy, and the Netherlands.

  • Italy will require a Green Pass in order to access university campuses, buildings, classes and events. This includes CEA study center, offices and program activities.

  • Other countries are requiring a Green Pass, too. If your CEA program country does not require one now, if you plan to travel, you may be expected to have a Green Pass in the countries you wish to visit.

  • If you are not fully vaccinated or have not recovered from COVID-19 in the past 180 days, this means you will need to provide a negative PCR test within 48-72 hours of entering an establishment or transportation provider, at your own cost. The cost of the PCR test for the Green Pass will not be covered by your CISI insurance. This could mean that you will have to schedule multiple PCR tests weekly, which could cost hundreds of dollars over the course of your program term.

  • In order to comply with local government regulations, CEA will require a Green Pass for students who are participating in a CEA program classes, activity or excursion in destinations where a Green Pass is required.

  • COVID-19 vaccines are not available abroad unless you are a citizen or permanent resident of your host country.

We want you to make the most of your time studying or interning abroad, and we strongly encourage you to receive a vaccination prior to your program to fully enjoy your CEA experience! It’s important to note, not being vaccinated will limit your ability to participate in CEA activities, attend local venues, restaurants, and travel. Refunds will not be available for those who are unable to participate in CEA classes, program activities, or excursions. If you have any questions, please reach out to your CEA Enrollment Advisor.
