An Excellent Excursion to Seville!

Over the weekend, my roommates and I all went on a CEA Excursion to Seville, Spain. From the beginning orientation on Day 1 in Madrid—when Álvaro told us all about the different excursions he’d planned—the weekend trip to Seville was what everyone felt the most excited about. He planned amazing activities for us every day, and I would consider it one of my favorite trips we’ve done so far. Considering that the hotel and all transportation provided through CEA, it’s a hard opportunity to pass up.

We began our trip on Friday morning at Puerta de Atocha Train Station. All my friends and I were able to sit next to each other for the quick two-and-a-half-hour, high-speed train ride! Once we arrived, we were able to explore the city on our own. For those with lingering excitement and curiosity, Álvaro gave a fun and informative tour of every aspect of the city. After a quick siesta, we immersed ourselves fully into the Seville culture: tapas hopping. The amazing Spanish cuisine and vibrant eateries were a great way to finish the first night.

While Friday was filled with excitement, Saturday was likely my favorite day. CEA provided us with tickets to the Alcázar Real de Sevilla and a tour of the entire grounds. The history of Spain comes alive when walking through every room; the past cultures of Andalucía effervesce from the ornate walls. Keeping on with the cultural theme, we walked through Barrio Santa Cruz, also known as the Jewish Quarter of Seville. It is said that this neighborhood is the cultural stronghold of the city, and after admiring the narrow streets, orange tree-filled plazas, and quaint tapas bars, I'd have to agree.

On our final day of the excursion, CEA took us to the Metropol Parasol and the Ancient Roman ruins of Seville. The juxtaposition of ancient and contemporary served as a great final activity for the weekend, and it was now that I realized how much I loved this small city. But we still had a few hours to kill before our train back to Madrid, so we passed the time by filling our stomachs with more tapas!

To anyone who visits Seville: let yourself get lost in the streets and admire all the city has to offer -- there is so much to see and do.
