Tell your story

How did you decide to study abroad with CEA? Was there anything you were nervous about? How did you overcome those reservations? Did you encounter any obstacles? How did you overcome them? How has your personal outlook changed now that you are abroad?

Diversity Abroad

Are you an underrepresented student (including Students of Color, LGBTQIA+ Students, Student Athletes, Students with Disabilities, High Financial Need Students (Pell Eligible), Male Students, First Generation College Students)? Diversity is a term that can have many different meanings depending on context – race, class, gender, and sexual orientation, etc. How does your study abroad or internship look with your different background, sets of experiences, cultural context, and world views? Start a discussion about your experiences as a diverse student in your host city.

Arrival

What were your first thoughts when landing in your new home and settling in your dorm/apartment/homestay? Did you have any “international trip/embarking on a new journey jitters?” Tell us about your transition into [insert host country] culture?

Favorite Places in [your city]

List and describe your top 3–5 local places, restaurants, parks, cafes, etc. in your host city that you’d recommend to future students. White this as a listicle, Buzzfeed-style. Please do not use the first person narrative.

CEA Excursions

Blog about the excursions you experience abroad as part of the CEA program. What are you doing? Where are you going? What was the experience like? What did you like most? What impacted you most? The opportunities with this type of post are endless—get creative!

Language Barriers

Describe and reflect upon your most memorable/challenging/funny/interesting/etc. language barrier situation you’ve experienced in your time abroad thus far, and how you worked your way through it. Or, share your thoughts about the local language. Which words or phrases in the host language have struck you as funny, different, similar to English, or impossible to pronounce? This would be fun to write as a translation list or a fun language guide for future students to use.

Fashion Forward How-To

Describe and explain the culturally appropriate way to dress in your host city and how it differs from American culture, as well as things to keep in mind for future students while they pack to venture abroad. SUGGESTED: "__#__ Things To Pack When You Study Abroad in [CITY]"

Learning from the Locals

Craft a post about the most interesting, influential, or memorable local you have met and why you feel this way about this local individual.

Reflection

As your time abroad comes to a close, reflect on your experiences. What did you learn? Did you change? What new skills or ideas will you take home? How will study abroad impact your future? What do you wish you knew before going abroad? SUGGESTED: "__#__ Things To Know About Studying Abroad in [CITY]"

Tips for Traveling Abroad

You’ve read plenty of travel tips and know what to expect before you go abroad, but did any of them work? Did you roll your clothes; did that actually work? What are some expert tips you’ve tried and tested before leaving and after you got there? Please do not write this post in the first-person narrative.

Being a [Your Major] Major in [Your Location

How does study abroad help enhance your area of study? How has it enhanced your view of your area of study? Why did you choose to study that major? Have you learned anything new?

Academics & Classes

What are your classes like? What’s it like going to school in another country and how does it compare you school at home? Was it easy to adjust? What are you studying and how does it benefit your degree to be studying there?

Q&A with CEA Program Faculty/Staff

Interview a faculty or staff member about your host city, the program, cultural experiences, etc. This is also a great one to use for your video post.

CEA Cultural Engagement Activities

Is your CEA group learning how to make pasta together? Or maybe your CEA staff is leading a walking tour of your city’s best street art. Whatever the CEA activity is, share what it was like to participate in local activities! What are you doing? Where are you going? What did you like most? What impacted you most?
