Best of the Best

There are so many things I love about Seville, I will list my top picks so this blog doesn’t turn into a novel.
Best view of the Plaza de España

Where to begin. You can’t go wrong with visiting the Plaza de España. It's located in the famous Maria Luisa Park. The Plaza has some breathtaking Spanish architecture with the mix of Renaissance and Moorish styles. It’s a huge half-circle structure with buildings that are connected by bridges over the moat and a fountain in the middle. I love walking through Maria Luisa Park around sunset and then hitting the Plaza de España at the end to enjoy this amazing place. This park stretches along the Guadalquivir River and it’s Seville’s major green area. It’s filled with tiled fountains, pavilions, ponds, and benches surrounded by botanical gardens beside many orange trees, plantings of palms, and flowerbeds.

Another site you can’t miss when you go to Seville is the Catedral de Seville. This Roman Catholic Church is the largest Gothic cathedral and the third-largest church in the world. In the cathedral there is the burial site of Christopher Columbus and La Giralda bell tower, the city’s most well known symbol. La Giralda was a former minaret from the ancient mosque that was under Muslim rule until it was converted into the bell tower.  At the top of La Giralda you can see a stunning view of Seville from all the way up.

Right next to the Cathedral is another one of my favorite places in Seville,  the palace of the Real Alcázar. This palace was originally developed by Moorish Muslim Kings and is the oldest royal palace still in use in Europe. It is one of the most beautiful sites in Spain and a greatly visited monument. The palace consists of rainwater tanks called the “Baths of Lady María de Padilla,” and the lovely gardens with the scenic Mercury pond. Fun fact: Game of Thrones, has been filmed in this palace.

Close to the Cathedral and the Acázar is a good place to eat some tapas. The restaurant is called Ovejas Negras. I would recommend going in smaller groups because it is very popular and like most tapas places it is too small to fit big groups.

The best place to go for sunset in Seville would be the Metropol Parasol (Las Setas de Sevilla). It claims to be the largest wooden structure in the world and looks like a giant mushroom. Underneath the structure are ruins dating to Roman and Andalusian eras. The panoramic terraces offer one of the best views of the city.

The last but not least place is the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium. I recommend watching the Sevilla Fútbol Club play to experience the great atmosphere , soccer fans and friendly locals.
 ¡Vamooos Sevillaaaa!
