Favorite Foodie Places in Sevilla

Tapas are abundant in this cute, traditional town, but when you want something besides the normal potato or “jamon iberico” dish, you may need some help. Food in Sevilla is delicious, especially when you go to more expensive restaurants. The day-to-day food however, may start to get boring and you will crave more flavors and SPICES. Also you may miss common snacks you may eat when at home. So let me tell you about the little gems throughout Sevilla to give you more variety in your local diet.

1.Bagels
I miss bagels so much! At home they are common for breakfast or even to make yummy little sandwiches. They are not part of the Sevillan diet and therefore are not found… often. But behold! A new restaurant opened near my casa de Sevilla near the Alamade de Hercules. It’s on calle Amor de Dios and has a funky, artsy, vibe mixed with an Indiana Jones set you walk through in Disney Land. The staff is friendly and they offer work by local artists and free music as well. Food-wise, I love this place for having delicious bagel sandwiches. 2.Smoothie & Healthy Snacks
You may see this little hole in the wall with the best ratings on Trip Advisor and Yelp. It’s near the Cathedral in Sevilla and the same girl works there everyday. Her name is Martina and we quickly befriended her during our time in Spain. Her store offers every kind of organic ingredient, so you can create your own smoothie, sandwich, or salad. She even offers milkshakes which are incredible! And a little secret of Sevilla, she has PEANUT BUTTER! Not kidding! Martina is so kind and helps you decide what to get and lets you taste your final product before buying it so you can keep making it perfect and adding ingredients with no extra charge! This place is cheap, healthy, and delicious and I definitely recommend it!

3. Dessert
The yummiest little dessert place is in the Alameda de Hercules. They serve chocolate soufflé, carmel cake, and so much more. My favorite is to get the hot chocolate extra thick. It tastes like straight melted chocolate and is creamy heaven. Especially if you want to grab a glass of wine and share a treat with friends in the summer, or snuggle up inside and get a warm hot chocolate, this place has definitely earned its place as one of my favorite spots in Sevilla. SO yummy, I recommend it.

4. Nachos
You may crave regular Mexican food, and especially nachos! You can get a delicious pile of chips with cheese, meat, guacamole, salsa, jalapeños, and more. This Irish pub is so fun and always has sports playing and new people to meet. They are located on the other side of the river from the Toro de Oro and you should definitely come here with friends.

5. Spices
This restaurant utilizes spices and flavors so much! I missed this so much and was overjoyed to find this restaurant on Calle Trajano. It is family sharing style at big tables with mix-matched chairs and decorations and large plants. A rustic jungle look. It’s very cool and the menu has so many different options you wont even believe this place is in Sevilla! You can get hummus, curry, and so much more. This is a must-try place to go with family and friends.

6. Vegetarian Food/Salads
Two of my roommates were vegetarians while in Spain. The Spaniards love their meat, however, and don't really get the concept of NO meat at all. Our family would give the girls chicken instead of ham and think that was fine. So if you're craving Vegetarian food and even Vegan options, you must try Arte y Sabor! I'm not personally a vegetarian but love their salads and falafels. Other great salad places include Genova and Alijibe.

7. Sweet Potatoes
You won't know you incredibly miss these guys until you finally have a dish that includes them! Two incredible tapas bars incorporate sweet potatoes into their fusion Spanish tapa style restaurants. I recommend both of these places highly and it’s worth it to get the dish including sweet potatoes! You will be so happy, believe me. Side note: these are great places to take your friends and family when they visit, too!

8. Great Coffees (& Wifi)
This café has great coffees, snacks, and most importantly, consistent wifi! It’s near the metro stop of Puerta Jerez in the center of town. Many American study abroad students go here, and so everyone speaks great English and it definitely feels like home. This place is great but if you want a more local café with Spaniards, you may have to look around (café trajano is good is you live near El Corte Ingles or Virgen Coffee).

9. Hardy Breakfast
This place offers something we usually eat for breakfast but what Spaniards consider only a dinner meal: eggs. After a while of having a quick yogurt or tostada (toast) with tomato, I was craving a bigger breakfast. I finally found this place near CEA and the Cathedral. They have sweet and savory crepes as well as breakfast specials. I got eggs, bacon and pancakes in one meal and shared with my friend. It was delicious and they also have incredibly fresh orange juice and yummy hot chocolate.

10. Just treat yourself more!
Spanish restaurants are great, but to find the best you need to explore and treat yourself. Everything I listed above are students'  favorite places to go to mix things up. Enjoy!
