Being part of CEA, you enjoy unique experiences that other international students may not have.
Fall 2014 CEA Chile Group with Lily

You get to enjoy perks that other students are unaware of, such as some of these opportunities.

For CEA participants studying abroad in Viña Del Mar, Chile, we were given the opportunity to stay at a beach town of Horcon (two hours north of Viña Del Mar), a town rarely recognized by tourists.

Led by Lily, our local CEA coordinator, we had an amazing time bonding together as a group.  Although none of us hang out with each other often, it was interesting to hear from other students about how their study abroad experiences have been in Chile.

We also ate seafood dishes, which were truly one of the bests. I was surprised to find so many seafood dishes also tasting like those I had growing up in Korea.

For another excursion, Lily, our coordinator, took us to a German Brewery.

After an hour train ride, we arrived at a town called Olmue with a famous German Brewery called, Tauss Braus, in Chile.

When we got there, we each ordered some fresh German beers and German cuisines.
Drinking German “beer” in Chile reminded me of the strong European influences that have shaped Chile, especially that of the Germans.

I’ve noticed that there were little German towns spread throughout Chile. After talking to my host grandmother, who is one of the daughters of “German immigrants’ in Chile, I’ve realized why there were many German breweries in Chile. When Germans immigrated here, they wanted to taste their beers in their new “homes.” Many German people, including the host grandmother’s family, started German breweries. Popularity of German beers proliferated all over the long Chilean landscape.  German immigrants through their breweries were able to continue their culture and bring their beer into mainstream Chilean Culture.
 Welcome to Chile German drinks!
