Program Structure & Courses

You’ll enroll in 2 ECNU courses, a Chinese Reading/Writing course and a Chinese Speaking/Listening course, at your language level. Contact hours for courses vary, but generally each course meets for approximately 390 contact hours/9 credits per semester. You may earn up to 18 credits (approximately 780 contact hours) per semester.

Classes meet Monday-Friday at various times. Active learning components required by your courses may be scheduled on Fridays.

Prior to departure, you will take a language placement exam. You will then be enrolled into the appropriate language courses. It is in your best interest to have multiple alternative courses approved by your home university prior to your departure due to course availabilities. To ensure that you receive credit for the language level you place into, have your home school pre-approve courses at several levels before you leave for China. Please consult with your academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.
