London South Bank University
Established in 1892 as the Borough Polytechnic Institute, the original aim of London South Bank University (LSBU) was to promote the industrial skill, general knowledge, health, and well-being of young men and woman. Renamed London South Bank University in 2003, LSBU’s mission remains remarkably similar today, with a goal to produce graduates who meet the challenges of today’s workplace.
LSBU features seven schools in a flexible, dynamic learning environment that supports students, develops academic programming, and engages with professional industries. More than 17,000 students enroll at LSBU, of which approximately 2,000 are international students from more than 130 countries. LSBU’s campus is located on the south bank of the River Thames, a quick tube ride from Central London.
Students taking classes at LSBU will have access to a number of services and amenities such as mental health & well-being support, special needs support, student advising, student sport clubs and societies, as well as a dedicated student union.

Grading
English professors assume that you are there to learn and they typically do not take responsibility for your learning, so you may find that you don’t have the same system of accountability that you are used to at your home school. You are responsible for knowing the subject matter and researching topics related to your course. In addition, many English professors will not give feedback about how you are doing. Grades are usually based on a final exam, paper, or oral presentation. Quizzes, homework assignments, and midterms are rare. Even though homework is not assigned to you, you will still be responsible for knowing the material at the end of the semester.
London South Bank University grades on a 100-point scale, with 70+ equaling an ”A+”. Please keep in mind that it is not very common for students to score above a 70.

Program Structure & Courses
Choose to take 2 or 3 STEM courses at LSBU and 1-3 courses at the CEA London Center. By selecting a CEA & LSBU hybrid program, you choose to take courses at both institutions.
CEA courses meet for 45 contact hours/3 credits; LSBU courses are worth 4 credits. You may earn up to 17 credits (up to 255 contact hours).
CEA courses may meet 1-2 times per week. LSBU courses typically meet once a week. Classes at both locations are typically held Monday - Friday. Active learning components required by your courses may be scheduled outside of your normal class time throughout the week.
Prior to departure you will select your preferred courses. You will be enrolled in courses based on their availability. Partner institution (LSBU) course lists and schedules are not finalized until you’re in London. As such, final course registration takes place on-site. It is critical to understand course availability is subject to change and courses are not guaranteed. It is in your best interest to get several course alternates approved by your home university prior to your departure date. This will give you flexibility during registration. Please consult with your academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.

Westminster’s residence halls typically house American, international, and British students in single rooms with access to a shared kitchen. Please note, this housing option is only available to students in the University of Westminster - Direct Enroll program. Marylebone Residence Hall is undergoing renovations and will not be available in Summer or Fall 2025.
