DESCRIPTION
This Course introduces students, of all levels, to how different teaching methodologies incorporate art into practice. Italy has exported several important teaching methodologies throughout the world including: Loris Malaguzzi?s Reggio Emilia Approach that has in recent years gained international popularity, and the Montessori method developed by Maria Montessori that has had a constant world-wide presence for over a century. In this course, students will explore these methodologies in an interactive way and consider how creativity is at the center of alternative teaching philosophies. As part of this course, students will have the opportunity to visit the Loris Malaguzzi Center in Reggio Emilia as well as a local Montessori school in order to learn about the importance of art in child-centered educative methods.
