DESCRIPTION
This course is dedicated to the study of important cultural aspects (architecture, art, literature, theatre) of Japan, as they developed within the context of cultural history and within their religious environment. The 12 lectures on Japanese culture are divided into four chronologically ordered blocks covering ancient, mediaeval, new age, and modern culture, each of three lessons. 12 lessons will offer a chronological survey of the development of culture. Each lesson will be joined by a theme which will review a study case of one cultural genre or discipline (architecture, sculpture, paintings and calligraphy, printing, ceramics and lacquer ware, poetry, theatre of nó, bunraku and kabuki). Two practical lessons - one guided tour in Asian art museum and one on.Japanese calligraphy are included. Taiwanese artist Lo Ching s lecture is planned for September 22, 2016 . NOTE: Students are supposed to search the visual matarial on the recommended web pages. At least three volumes on Japanese art are available in the AAU NEO system in PDF.
