DESCRIPTION

This course examines some of major historical events and policies society has faced throughout early French history. Subject matter covers the periods from the Middle Ages to the Grand Siècle. Social, political and economic issues of the time are noted. This may include the Carolingian dynasties, the days of Charlemagne - The Holy Roman Emperor, the French feudal system, the Crusades, the Hundred Years' War and up to the Bastille and the French Revolution. Individuals such as Joan of Arc, Cardinal Richelieu, and King Louis XIII to XV are also discussed.
