Presidential Debate Night at Café Politique!

October 17, 2012
by CEA CAPA Content Creator
CEA's Café Politique took place last night, just in time for the second presidential debate! CEA students, French students majoring in journalism and political science, and Tony and Barbara from the Union of Overseas Voters all came together to hash out the big topics.
Barbara, an American, kindly volunteered to act as the debate moderator. Her expertise after having worked on over 30 campaigns was a great asset to our Café Politique! Tony was able to share his experience as a Franco-American, and explained the similarities and differences between the two electoral systems.
Here's a glimpse of the night in photos...

A little red, white and blue to set the ambiance for the debate!

A big thank you to Tony, Barbara and the Union of Overseas Voters for helping us make Café Politique a success.

CEA student, Matt Mitchell (left ),shares his thoughts with the group. French student, William, explains the procedure for French presidential hopefuls to become official candidates in the election.

To our surprise, we had a French student with double nationality in the group! Tony helped him register to vote on the spot!

Barbara discovers that instead of staying up until the wee hours to catch the presidential debate on French TV, CEA students have a great alternative called YouTube :-

Of course we had American eats for the occasion...
(the Frenchies bravely tried the chicken wings -with ketchup- cookies, popcorn, potato chips and peanut butter and jelly!)

Fun taste-testing aside, it was a great night made possible by everyone's respectful participation. If you are studying abroad and haven't yet registered to vote, be sure to check out the Union of Overseas Voters website for assistance!
