Prague-nosis: Places to Visit

Exploring Prague will forever be my favorite passtime.

Petřín Hill

It’s hard to miss the large green hill that towers over the red roofs of Prague, right across from Prague Castle. The hike to the top of Petřín Hill is both incredibly scenic and peaceful, since it’s one of the only places in Prague where you can be completely surrounded by nature. This is the perfect place for an outdoor study session, a picnic with friends, or even a run if you’re into that. At the summit, there’s a rose garden, a mirror maze, and also the popular Petřín Tower, which bears a strong resemblance to the Eiffel tower and offers easily the best views of beautiful Prague. Right in the heart of the city, Petřín Hill offers an easily accessible respite from city life.

Vltava Beach

Around the corner from Mánes Bridge, this “beach” made of cobblestones holds a fun surprise: it’s filled with swans. With a picturesque background of Charles Bridge and Prague’s old buildings, it feels like stumbling into the setting of a fairy tale. The swans here are very used to people and fairly friendly, especially when you bring bread. If you happen to be one of these people, you will not only be swarmed with excited swans, but also pigeons and even the odd coypu (similar to a muskrat). As long as you’re not afraid of birds, this is one of the most unique and magical places while studying abroad in Prague.

River beach may not be the beach your craving, but it's still great

Globe Café

This conveniently located and adorable bookstore/café is one of the best places to go when you need to get out of the house. With free Wi-Fi, it’s the perfect place to do homework while grabbing a delicious bite. It’s also one of the only English-language bookstores in Prague. Depending on the day of the week, they have all kinds of events: trivia, karaoke, book clubs, comedy nights, etc.

 Can you say waffles?

Vojan Gardens

Hidden away directly behind Anglo American University is a serene and secluded garden. Founded in the Middle Ages as a monastery garden, this quiet park is surrounded by walls and filled with beautiful peacocks that people casually feed like pigeons. This is the perfect place to relax between classes and truly feels like walking through Old Europe.
