Prepping for Prague

As February 3 is approached, the idea of studying abroad in Prague is becoming all the more real. Not only is this exciting, but stressful. Between international insurance, packing for 30-degree weather and complicated flight schedules, it seems that there is an overwhelming amount to do and learn in a short amount of time. How am I going to figure out Prague transportation? Where are all my classes? Never mind the daunting challenge of the Czech language.

The idea of moving to a country that I have never been to and whose language I do not know for four months is more than slightly intimidating. However, as more and more of my peers begin to settle into their temporary homes in Florence, London and Barcelona, I can’t wait to do the same. As I have begun to flip through Prague travel books, I am slowly becoming obsessed with all that Prague has to offer: enchanting Old Town, beautiful Baroque palaces, and quaint cafes. There’s definitely a reason Walt Disney was so inspired by Prague. While the John Lennon Wall is iconic, there is so much more just that in Prague. Even beyond the city limits of Prague, the country itself of the Czech Republic has so much to offer all available through a short train ride. Through shamelessly stalking the Instagram accounts based in Prague and of my peers, I have been able to develop a hefty list to do in and out of Prague.

My apartment for the next semester is in Prague 2. It definitely will take some getting used to (and a lot of getting lost), but I am so excited to get the chance to get to know my new neighborhood and make Prague my own.

One of the most exciting things though about studying abroad is the chance to see friends all over Europe. While navigating European airlines, trains, and border patrol is intimidating, I can’t wait to see and experience as much as much as I can in my short 4 months. Budapest, Vienna, Florence, Dublin, the options really are endless. I will land in Prague on the 30th (just in time for the Ellie Goulding concert) and won’t be back in America until May 22! I will be making the most of my four months abroad by seeing and doing as much as possible. I can’t wait to eat my weight in trdelniks and become an expert in Prague Art and Architecture!
